Keep yourself safe from internet scams
WOT is a Firefox add-on that adds a coloured ring near the home page button of your browser. This tool lets you know easily, by changing colour, if a website is trusted, safe to use and also the general reputation of that site among end users. You can add your own rating by clicking the coloured ring and give your score on trustworthiness, vendor reliability, privacy and child safety.
If you click on “View scorecard for rating details” a new web page will be opened where you can write a comment on the web site you were visiting and read what other people say about it. Usefully, the program also displays references to that web site found on other sites. Another very interesting function in this page is the ‘Whois’ one. Click this to access lots of information such as front page details, indexed data, registry data, and server data. You can even find a physical address behind a web site. There are cases in which even just having the ability to access this information makes it worth having this program installed!
The only flaw I can see is that most end users can’t really know how a web site manages their privacy. What people can know about the personal data management of a website or if it saves malware or tracking programs for marketing purposes etc. This sort of information should be provided by a pool of experts to be accurate.
If you want to discover the reputation of a web site, try WOT and get a graphic report on the reliability and accuracy of any site, plus tons of other interesting details, such as the physical address behind a website.

Improves Safety For Firefox Users.
WOT (Short for Web of Trust) adds an extra layer of safety when surfing the web. It tells you when a site is dangerous and won't let you enter the dangerous site without your approval. It even works with gmail links to hel prevent you from clicking on a dangerous link.My issues with WOT is the fact it is not put out by a top security company and that most of it's ratings are based on other people's opinions and white/blacklists. No scans to see how dangerous a file is or anything. To me all of these security type add-ons lack accuracy as too many go by user reviews. User reviews are a problem because a lot of users rate a site based more on like or dislike over if the site is actually safe or not. The black and white lists with WOT helps but they need to start finding some anti-malware product to test the products on these sites as well.Still some protection is better than others and it allows you to give your opinion as well as override the default ratings.
Pros:
Rates Links As Well As Sites
Requires User Approval To Enter Dangerous Sites
Free
Cons:
Relies Too Heavily On User Opinions
They Don't Use Anti-Malware To Test Products

Not Compatible with FireFox 3.
The only real problem with this software is that it is not compatible with FireFox 3. I still have this software on IE and i can tell you it is worth the download. It gives extensive ratings on each site you visit and allows you to rate the site yourself for future reference.
Pros:
Protect Computer
Safer Internet
Nice Appearance
Cons:
Not Compatible with FireFox 3 More

Awesome!.
WOT makes my surfing more fun and protects my computer. It complements your anti-virus software by providing an extra layer of preventive security.
Pros:
I would recommend WOT to anybody who visits lots of new sites. It covers over 18 million sites and I have found the ratings accurate.
Cons:
I would like WOT to enhance its its functionality to email. Being able to see the safety ratings next to the links within a message would be useful. More

Web of Trust is People-driven Security.
The advantage of WOT is in the area of social engineering. Members of the WOT community exchange their personal knowledge about a web site allowing for a new and exciting trend in Internet security - the concept of "people driven security." Many Internet users have noticed that WOT's user driven approach often gives more accurate ratings than automated ones. Furthermore, WOT provides reputation regarding "vendor reliability" and "child safety", where human input is crucial. As the community builds and gets more diverse, the "crowds" and their subsequent "wisdom" will become more valuable, the data will become more refined and the reach of community will expand, making WOT more accurate, reliable and up-to-date. Pros:
WOT has been adopted worldwide, so the community is already diverse.
Cons:
The community is made up of hundreds of thousand of users, but not all participate in rating websites for everyone's benefit. More
